The Atheist's Explanation

Atheists and Agnostics should feel welcome and completely loved and accepted within a Liberation Community. Jesus did not toss Thomas out when he needed to physically verify Christs' wounds. Neither did he chastise him for not believing until Thomas could verify the Truth for himself. (He simply gave a blessing to those who are able to believe without having seen.) If the Spirit wants to reveal itself to someone who does not believe (a Doubting Thomas) it is perfectly capable of doing so. Until then, non-believers should feel free to believe according to their scientific observations. Let us hope that they have cause to beileve that the people in a Liberation Community have hearts filled with love and unconditional acceptance for them.

An atheist reading the medicine man's description of our religions as being spokes on a wheel might be inclined to think that this story does not relate to atheistic beliefs, but that would not be the case. From the medicine man's perspective, the world view provided by the methods of science is also one of the spokes on the wheel. On the spoke of Science, when we move into the center we delve into the strange mysteries of Science such as quantum mechanics, string theory (eleven dimensions? Hmmm,)   and the Archetypes and Symbols of the Collective Unconscious.

Perhaps the best way for an atheist or an agnostic to appreciate the language on this website or to be able to feel at home in a Liberation Community is to conceive of God or Creator or the Great Mystery as the human conception of ultimate love and consciousness, an admittedly non-quantifiable projection of the ultimate invisible all loving parent figure who only wants what is best for us and wants us to get along with everybody else. Perhaps it may also help to suspend disbelief such as one does when watching a Star Trek movie when Scotty is "beaming" the captain back aboard the Enterprise.
