Reaction to your site
I'm generally extremely wary and skeptical about anything containing the word 'community', I'm rather like a cat.
I came across your site while looking for the french 'liberation' newspaper through keywords, rather like jean-marc.
There is a flavour in your site which entices me to come out of my cave and react. My cave is made of light, because I am lucky to be a builder (the wider sense). If I refuse attachment to a community I know that I belong to several, be it consciously or not. Social interaction cannot be dissociated from the notion of community, and I am involved socially. I know practically nothing of american indian culture or history, but enough to feel intuitively that this culture posesses keys to things which many of us cannot access any more. Particularly I feel sad at the history of the past three hundred years in the lands where they were once numerous. I come from a traditional catholic/protestant background (english and french parents) and have learned to shun those doctrines. It came naturally. Why "fear" God ? While tolerant, I despise the history of moral blackmail behind hegemonist and conquering religions. I cannot stand the idea of a "converting" mechanism. This has meant the death of many and the end of pagan cultures which may have had much more sense than what forcefully replaced them. I try to relate to nature as much as possible while living and working in the capital. Sometimes I feel as if the rocks, the trees, the river are speaking to me in a language which has been forgotten.
We should not try to define God, but maybe just praise life for its very existance, respect and help the people around us, and listen to the underlying rythms, which are cosmic.
There is no heaven and no hell after death. These are abstract concepts designed to manipulate people, and they work wonderfuly even to this day.
Man creates his own hell through wars and greed.
Man creates his own heaven through a life in tune with himself and the earth he walks on.
Our parents may bring us up with love (if we are lucky) but we must discern among their teachings those things which we wish to keep and those things we feel we must discard.Your part on the vision quest was good to read.
So maybe I'm a believer, in a way I just venerate the stars, the elements, and my wife of course !
bye for now
