Mystical and Evolutionary

MYSTICAL

When people think of things that are 'Mystical' they often think of strange practices involving chants and movements, and strange archetypal symbols and objects that tap into the deeper realms of the subconscious mind. Such things, though potent, are of no significance without a strong foundation of self knowledge that penetrates deep into the core of our being. Once our illusions have been defeated, then the learning process can begin and the symbols will have real meaning that can be experienced in many of the previously unopened levels of our awareness. We become empowered when we embrace Truth, the authentic gateway to the mystical.

EVOLUTIONARY

Virtually all of the sacred texts of the world's religions teach us to love and care for those who are less fortunate. Sadly though, the focus of many of the more affluent churches has turned away from that unselfish goal and towards the personal goal of earning a desirable afterlife (usually through devotion to and support of the church.) Sermons about lifestyle changes for building a sustainable future and a more just and equitable distribution of the world's resources and caring for those who are unable to care for themselves are rarely heard. Token offerings to the poor box and the occasional canned food drive seem somehow sufficient to ease the conscience, despite the fact that thousands of children continue to starve to death daily while their helpless starving parents can do nothing but watch and wait for the end. In order for us to approach a spiritually improved state, we must come to terms with who we really are and what we really do and should be doing.

As we enter the third millennium, we should recognize and keep in mind what is happening in the world around us. Population growth is out of control. Topsoils on arable lands are not being adequately protected. Rain forests are being destroyed. The oceans are being harvested at an unsustainable rate. The proliferation of chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons of mass destruction and the will to use them is growing uncontrollably. We are rapidly reaching a critical stage in the development of humanity when we will either wake up and recognize the problems that we are facing and deal with them compassionately and thoughtfully and thus EVOLVE, or else we will end up destroying ourselves. The first step is to recognize, without judging and feeling guilty, the part we all play in creating or sustaining the problems. The second step is to recognize how we all can become part of the solutions, and to devote what energy we can towards that effort.

Who knows? We may yet wake up and evolve! It's not too late, and we are not powerless.

The ball is in our court, what are we going to do?
